Purdue 27, Iowa 24: Paul Griggs hit a 46-yard field goal as time expired to propel the visiting Boilermakers past the Hawkeyes in a back-and-forth Big Ten battle.
Taking over with 21 seconds left and the score tied 24-24, Robert Marve, who finished with 266 yards and two touchdowns, drove Purdue 37 yards on three plays to set up Griggs’ game-winner.
Ralph Bolden rushed for a game-high 102 yards as Purdue (4-6, 1-5) spoiled a 10-point comeback by the Hawkeyes (4-6, 2-4).
After Marve pushed the score to 24-14, finding Gary Bush on a 10-yard scoring strike with 1:38 left in the third quarter, Iowa cornerback Micah Hyde returned a Marve fumble 9 yards for a score with 10 seconds left in the third quarter. Mike Meyer hit a 24-yard field goal to tie the score at 24-24 with 3:32 left.
Marve rushed up the middle for 17 yards before finding Antavian Edison for a 20-yard gain to put Griggs in position.
