No. 13 Oregon State 36, Arizona State 26: Cody Vaz helped the host Beavers regroup following a slow start, throwing three touchdown passes in the come-from-behind victory.
Vaz, who took over as the starting quarterback for Oregon State (7-1, 5-1 Pac-12) after Sean Mannion was intercepted four times in an upset loss to Washington last week, completed 14 of 33 passes for 267 yards and the three scores. The Beavers were balanced by the running of sophomore Terron Ward, who carried the ball 19 times for 146 yards and a touchdown, the first 100-yard game of his career.
Taylor Kelly completed 22 of 41 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown for Arizona State (5-4, 3-3), which has lost three straight games. Kelly also rushed for 80 yards on 10 carries.
Vaz fumbled on the third play of the game after he was sacked by lineman Will Sutton. Defensive end Junior Onyeali recovered at the 1 and ran into the end zone.
The Beavers fell behind 14-3 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Cameron Marshall with 8:44 left in the opening quarter, but rallied to tie the score 19-19 on a 45-yard field goal by Trevor Romaine just before the half. Vaz came out in the second half and led Oregon State on three scoring drives to put the Beavers ahead 36-19.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oregon State cornerback Jordan Poyer, who came into the game leading the Pac-12 with five interceptions, did not play because of a knee injury. … Ward had a 53-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that cut deficit to 19-16. It was his longest run of the season. … The Sun Devils were just 4-for-17 on third-down conversions.
