Arkansas State 42, Louisiana-Monroe 14: Adam Kennedy accounted for 337 total yards and three touchdowns as the visiting Red Wolves remained a game out of first place in the Sun Belt Conference.
Kennedy completed 16-of-23 passes for 235 yards and a 51-yard touchdown strike to Michael Gordon in the opening quarter, the first of four touchdowns for sophomore running back. Kennedy also carried the ball for 102 yards and two scores as Arkansas State (5-4, 3-1) outscored the Warhawks 28-0 in the second half.
Rashon Ceaser caught five passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns for Louisiana-Monroe (5-5, 3-2), which only converted two of its 14 third-down opportunities. Kolton Browning went 17-of-37 for 191 yards but was picked off twice, ending a three-game streak without an interception.
Both teams scored on long touchdown passes in the final minute of the opening quarter and Ceaser’s 10-yard touchdown catch in the final seconds of the half tied the game. An interception by Browning early in the second half led to Gordon’s 1-yard touchdown run and a 21-14 lead.
Louisiana-Monroe had a 39-yard field goal blocked later in the third quarter and the Red Wolves capitalized with a five-play drive capped by Kennedy’s 8-yard touchdown run. A blocked punt early in the fourth quarter set up a 4-yard touchdown run by Kennedy and Arkansas State’s lead had ballooned to 35-14.
