Georgia Tech 68, North Carolina 50: Robert Godhigh scored three touchdowns and Vad Lee rushed for two scores and threw for another as the visiting Yellow Jackets won the highest-scoring game in ACC history.
Lee, a redshirt freshman, was 6-for-10 for 169 yards and added 112 on the ground as Georgia Tech (5-5, 4-3 ACC) scored its most-ever points in an ACC game. Orwin Smith rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown as the Yellow Jackets amassed 588 yards, including 380 on the ground and moved into a tie for first with Miami in the Coastal Division.
Giovani Bernard caught six passes for 92 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 78 yards and a score for the Tar Heels (6-4, 3-3), who lost for the first time at home. Bernard, who leads the ACC with 1,008 yards, injured his ankle with 5:57 remaining in the third quarter and touched the ball only twice in the fourth.
Georgia Tech's Jamal Golden returned the opening kickoff of the second half 100 yards for a touchdown. North Carolina answered on its first play from scrimmage when Bryn Renner found a wide-open Bernard, who broke a pair of tackles near midfield and recorded a career-high 78 yard touchdown reception - his 17th score of the season - to put the Tar Heels ahead 36-34.
The Yellow Jackets erupted for 24 straight points, including Godhigh's three touchdowns, to take a 58-36 lead. Godhigh's second score - a 27-yard run - came one play after North Carolina punter Thomas Hibbard tried to run for a first down on fourth-and-10, but gained only two yards.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Georgia Tech QB Tevin Washington tied the ACC and school record with his 35th career touchdown - a 25-yard run in the first quarter for his 17th of the season. Joshua Nesbitt set the standard in 2010. ... Golden also had a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Yellow Jackets' 41-17 loss to Brigham Young on Oct. 27. ... The Yellow Jackets lead the series 27-18-3 and have won 13 of the last 15 meetings, including a 42-28 victory in 2000 - the previous highest-scoring game in the series.
