Oklahoma State 55, West Virginia 34: Third-string quarterback Clint Chelf threw for 292 yards and four touchdowns in his first career start as the host Cowboys became bowl eligible.
Josh Stewart had 13 receptions for a career-high 172 yards and two touchdowns and also scored on a 46-yard reverse as Oklahoma State (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) handed the Mountaineers (5-4, 2-4) their fourth consecutive defeat.
Chelf, the third quarterback to start for the Cowboys this season because of injuries, finished 22-of-31 and responded well after West Virginia closed to 38-34 late in the third quarter. He guided Oklahoma State to 17 unanswered points, including a 21-yard scoring run by Jeremy Smith that made it 55-34 with 9:50 to play.
Justin Gilbert returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown for Oklahoma State, which jumped on top 14-0 and led 31-17 at halftime en route to their fourth win in five games.
Geno Smith threw for 364 yards and two touchdowns and scored on a 1-yard run and wideout Stedman Bailey had 14 receptions for 225 yards and a touchdown for the Mountaineers, who have surrendered an averaged of 49.5 points during the four-game skid.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cowboys RB Joseph Randle rushed for 74 yards to go over for 1,000 for the season, becoming the sixth player in school history with multiple 1,000-yard seasons. ... West Virginia's Paul Millard was forced into the game when Geno Smith lost his helmet, necessitating that he sit out one play. Millard took advantage of his chance with a 37-yard scoring strike to Bailey to cut the deficit to 14-7. ... Gilbert recorded his fifth touchdown on a kickoff return, breaking the school record held by Perrish Cox and tying the Big 12 Conference career mark.
