No. 20 Rutgers 10, Cincinnati 3: Sophomore Savon Huggins rushed for a career-high 179 yards on 41 carries and the visiting Scarlet Knights slowed down the high-scoring Bearcats.
Rutgers (9-1, 5-0 Big East) held the top rushing offense in the Big East to 90 yards and picked off Cincinnati quarterback Brendon Kay twice to maintain the top spot in the Big East. Huggins was subbing for leading rusher Jawan Jamison, who was hobbled by an ankle injury and totaled 37 yards on four carries.
Gary Nova scored Rutgers' only touchdown on a 71-yard pass to Mark Harrison with 6:13 left in the second quarter. Harrison finished with four receptions for 106 yards.
Nick Borgese’s 42-yard field goal with 7:59 remaining in the game gave the Scarlet Knights a 10-0 lead. Rutgers held George Winn, the Big East’s leading rusher, to 35 yards on 11 carries and had three sacks.
Cincinnati (7-3, 3-2), which was stopped inside the Rutgers 10 on fourth down in the third quarter, was averaging 34.2 points coming into the game. Tony Miliano’s 36-yard field goal spoiled the shutout with 11 seconds left in the contest.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Winn became the 15th Cincinnati player to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. He has 1,015. … Huggins’ 41 carries matched the school record set by Jamison against South Florida earlier this season. … Rutgers leads the all-time series 9-8-1.
