Louisiana-Lafayette 35, Georgia State 21: Terrance Broadway accounted for 312 total yards and equaled a career high with four touchdowns passes as the visiting Ragin' Cajuns remained atop the Sun Belt Conference with a win over the Panthers.
Broadway threw for 234 yards and added 78 more on the ground for Louisiana-Lafayette (8-2, 5-0 Sun Belt), which tied a school record with its eighth straight victory following losses at Arkansas and Kansas State to open the season. Freshman running back Elijah McGuire amassed 232 yards from scrimmage (107 rushing, career-high 125 receiving) and two receiving touchdowns.
Ronnie Bell passed for 229 yards a pair of scores as the Panthers (0-10, 0-5) dropped their 14th straight contest. Freshman Keith Rucker erupted for a career-high 121 receiving yards and a touchdown for Georgia State.
McGuire opened the scoring on Louisiana-Lafayette’s second possession, taking a pass off a jet sweep from Broadway and racing past the Panthers’ defense 80 yards for a touchdown. Alonzo Harris answered a Georgia State second-quarter touchdown with a 1-yard plunge and Darryl Surgent stretched the margin to 21-7 on a 50-yard pass from Broadway late in the second quarter.
Bell’s 42-yard TD pass to Rucker with 14 seconds left before the break halved the deficit while his second scoring pass with 5:01 left in the third quarter evened the game at 21. However, McGuire found the end zone again after going untouched on a 36-yard screen pass and Broadway put the game away with a 13-yard throw to Jamal Robinson with 7:58 remaining.
