No. 16 UCLA 38, No. 21 Southern California 28: Johnathan Franklin rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns as the host Bruins beat the Trojans to clinch the South Division crown and a spot in the Pac-12 championship game.
Brett Hundley rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another as UCLA (9-2, 6-2) avenged last season’s 50-0 loss to USC (7-4, 5-4) while beating the Trojans for only the second time in the last 14 meetings.
UCLA built a 24-0 lead and its defense intercepted Matt Barkley two times en route to its five consecutive victory. After the Trojans rallied to within 31-28, Franklin broke loose on a 29-yard scamper down the right sideline and the Bruins completed the milestone victory under first-year coach Jim Mora.
The Bruins roared to a 24-point lead while dominating the first 22 1/2 minutes. Hundley scored on a 1-yard run just 81 seconds into the contest and his 17-yard scoring strike to Joseph Fauria made it 17-0 with 1:34 left in the opening quarter. Franklin scored on a 16-yard run with 7:38 left in the half.
USC got back into the game with 20 consecutive points. Barkley threw second-quarter touchdowns passes of 33 yards to Nelson Agholor and 2 yards to Randall Telfer and the Trojans cut their deficit to four when an errant UCLA snap in a pouring rain led to the ball rolling back to the end zone where George Uko fell on it for a touchdown.
