Tulsa 23, Central Florida 21: Cody Green and Keyarris Garrett hooked up for three touchdowns and the Golden Hurricane overcame a pair of turnovers and two blocked kicks to hold off the Knights in a meeting of Conference USA's division leaders.
Green finished with 252 yards on 21-of-34 passing for Tulsa, which wrapped up its fourth West Division title. Garrett totaled seven catches for 130 yards to go with the three scores - all career marks for the sophomore - as the Golden Hurricane (9-2, 7-0) moved into position to host the Conference USA title game on Dec. 1.
A.J. Bouye returned a Green interception 76 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter, giving the Knights (8-3, 6-1) a 14-10 lead at the half. The teams traded punts on their first series after the break before Green and Garrett's second touchdown connection put Tulsa ahead for good.
The Knights, who gained only 66 yards on the ground - including a net total of zero in the first half - pulled to within 23-21 on a 2-yard scamper by Latavius Murray with 9:01 to play. Central Florida blocked a 29-yard Daniel Schwarz field goal try on the ensuing possession but failed to move the ball, going backward on their final series thanks to a pair of Golden Hurricane sacks. The Knights also blocked a Schwarz extra point in the third quarter.
Tulsa hosts the conference championship - a likely rematch with Central Florida - with a win at Southern Methodist next week or one more loss by East Carolina.
