Arizona State 41, No. 24 Arizona 34: Marion Grice rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns and the visiting Sun Devils outscored the Wildcats 24-7 in the fourth quarter to win the Territorial Cup.
Cameron Marshall scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 9-yard run with 5:34 remaining after Arizona State (7-5, 5-4 Pac-12) recovered a blocked punt. The Sun Devils intercepted Matt Scott on the next drive and scored on Michael Eubank’s 1-yard touchdown run with 2:51 to play.
The Wildcats (7-5, 4-5) cut the deficit to 41-34 with 1:54 left on David Richards’ 18-yard touchdown reception, but the Sun Devils recovered John Bonano’s onside kick and ran out the clock.
Scott threw three interceptions and lost a fumble for Arizona, which led 27-17 after scoring 18 points in the third quarter. Wildcats running back Ka’Deem Carey, the nation’s leading rusher, had 25 carries for 172 yards and a touchdown while breaking the school’s single-season rushing record.
Arizona State won despite being outgained 522-460 in total yards. Grice had scoring runs of 52 and 2 yards in the second quarter after back-to-back interceptions by Scott.
