Texas-San Antonio 21, North Texas 13: Eric Soza completed 30-of-49 passes for 274 yards and ran for two touchdowns as the visiting Roadrunners kept their Conference USA West title hopes alive with a win over the Mean Green.
Evans Okotcha ran for 104 yards on 16 carries for Texas-San Antonio (6-5, 5-2), which clinches a division title with a win next week coupled with a Tulane win over Rice. Kam Jones added 42 yards and a score on the ground for the Roadrunners, who were 14-for-20 on third down.
Derek Thompson was 26-for-46 for 229 yards and a touchdown for North Texas (7-4, 5-2). Darnell Smith hauled in 13 of those completions for 115 yards.
The Roadrunners jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, capping off their opening drive with a 40-yard rush for Jones. A second-quarter Zach Paul field goal pulled the Mean Green within 7-3 at the half.
The first of Soza’s two touchdown runs came midway through the third quarter to make it 14-3. After another Paul field goal early in the fourth, Soza trotted in from 10 yards out to put the game out of reach.
