No. 9 Clemson 62, N.C. State 48: Tajh Boyd accounted for a school-record eight touchdowns as the host Tigers rallied from an early deficit to rout the Wolfpack.
Boyd passed for five touchdowns and rushed for three more for Clemson (10-1, 7-1 ACC). The Tigers scored the game’s first 13 points, watched N.C. State (6-5, 3-4) reel off 24 unanswered points and responded with 42 consecutive points.
Trailing 24-13 early in the second quarter, Boyd fired a 7-yard touchdown to Brandon Ford, a 27-yard touchdown to Sammy Watkins and a 62-yard touchdown to DeAndre Hopkins, giving Clemson a 34-24 advantage. After a turnover, Boyd scored on a 9-yard run with 1:14 left in the half to push Clemson’s advantage to 40-24.
Boyd finished 30-for-44 for 426 yards, and rushed for 103 yards. N.C. State quarterback Mike Glennon went 29-for-53 for 493 yards with five touchdowns.
Two Chandler Catanzaro field goals and a Boyd 4-yard touchdown run gave the Tigers a 13-0 advantage midway through the first quarter. But Glennon hit Tobais Palmer on touchdown passes of 77 and 49 yards, and Glennon’s 18-yarder to Rashard Smith with 1:36 left in the quarter gave N.C. State a 21-13 lead.
