Old Dominion 30, Louisiana Tech 27: Taylor Heinicke threw two of his team’s four interceptions, but delivered an 8-yard touchdown pass to David Washington in overtime as the host Monarchs upset the Bulldogs in a Conference USA matchup.
Heinicke was 29-of-39 for 302 yards and two touchdowns to rally the Monarchs (5-6, 3-4) from a 24-14 halftime deficit. Old Dominion dominated the second half – holding Louisiana Tech to 25 yards on 15 plays that resulted in three punts and an interception – by controlling the clock for nearly 24 minutes.
Kenneth Dixon ran for 106 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries for Louisiana Tech (7-4, 6-1), which could have clinched the West Division title and a matchup with undefeated Marshall in the C-USA championship game. Cody Sokol was 19-of-31 for 217 yards and a score for the Bulldogs, who will host second-place Rice for the division title Nov. 29.
The Monarchs rallied to tie the game on a 46-yard field goal by Satchel Ziffer in the third quarter and a 16-yard scoring run by Cam Boyd with 6:17 remaining in the game. The Monarchs had a shot to win the game in regulation, taking the ball to midfield but Heinicke’s second interception at the Bulldogs' 5-yard line forced overtime.
Louisiana Tech opened overtime with a field goal after being stopped at the Old Dominion 8, setting up Heinicke’s heroics. The Bulldogs scored on 10-yard pass from Sokol to Trent Taylor pass and received touchdown runs of 7 yards by Dixon and 2 yards by Marlon Seets to lead at the half.
