Cincinnati 48, Duke 34: Brendon Kay connected with Travis Kelce on the go-ahead 83-yard touchdown pass with 44 seconds remaining as the Bearcats stunned the Blue Devils at the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, N.C.
With Duke poised to take the lead in the final two minutes, Cincinnati's John Williams recovered a fumble at the Bearcat 5-yard line with 1:20 remaining. Three plays later, Kay aired it out to Kelce and the tight end rumbled into the end zone to give the Bearkats a 41-34 lead.
Duke (6-7) drove to the Cincinnati 40-yard line before Malik Bomar hit quarterback Sean Renfree, knocking the ball loose. Nick Temple grabbed it and scampered 55 yards for the clinching touchdown as the Bearcats (10-3) won their second straight bowl game
Kay finished 17-of-25 while setting career highs with 332 yards and four touchdowns. Kelse hauled in five passes for 123 yards while Anthony McClung added 110 receiving yards and a score.
The Blue Devils raced to a 16-0 first quarter lead only to see Cincinnati rally to take a 17-16 halftime advantage. The Bearkats extended the lead to 27-16 in the third quarter before Duke answered with 15 straight points, setting the stage for the frantic fourth quarter.
Renfree finished 37-for-49 for 358 yards and a touchdown, but he threw a pair of interceptions as the Blue Devils finished with four turnovers in losing their fifth straight game to end the season.
George Winn paced the Cincinnati running game with 130 yards on 16 carries, including a 46-yard TD run in the third quarter.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cincinnati has racked up at least 10 wins in five of its last six seasons after doing so just once in its first 119 years of football. ... Steve Stripling, who will join Butch Jones' staff at Tennessee, is now 2-0 as an interim head coach, both bowl wins. Stripling also filled in for Jones after he left Central Michigan to go to Cincinnati and Stripling led the Chippewas to the GMAC Bowl title. ... Kay was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA last week and will battle next spring for the Cincinnati starting QB position with Munchie Legaux, who started the first nine games this year.
