Texas A&M 41, Oklahoma 13: Johnny Manziel accounted for 516 total yards and four touchdowns as the Aggies dominated the Sooners in the second half while setting the Cotton Bowl record for total yards.
Manziel, the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, threw for 287 yards and rushed for 229 and two touchdowns on 17 carries as the Aggies outgained Oklahoma 633-401 in total yards. The Sooners (10-3) were outscored 27-0 in the second half after trailing 14-13 at halftime.
Texas A&M (11-2) exploded for 20 unanswered points in the third quarter, capped by Manziel’s 33-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Swope with 3:55 left in the quarter. Swope finished with eight catches for 104 yards.
The Aggies increased the lead to 41-13 with 9:03 left in the fourth quarter after Manziel capped a 7-play, 74-yard drive with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Uzoma Nwachukwu. Manziel, who set the Cotton Bowl record for rushing yards by a quarterback, became the fourth straight Heisman winner to win a bowl game.
Sooners quarterback Landry Jones had a Cotton Bowl-record 23 completions in the first half and finished 35-of-48 for 278 yards and a touchdown. Oklahoma's defense allowed at least 30 points in five of its last seven games.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas A&M recorded its first 11-win season since 1998 and fourth in program history. … Manziel is the fourth FBS quarterback with 20 touchdowns passing and 20 touchdowns rushing in the same season. … The Aggies’ total yards broke USC’s record of 578 set in the 1995 Cotton Bowl.
