Navy 17, Army 13: Freshman Keenan Reynolds made three big plays on a late scoring drive and the Midshipmen forced a fumble on the next possession to deny the Black Knights their first Commander In Chief’s Trophy since 1996 in the 113th meeting between the service academies.
Reynolds threw for 130 yards, and rushed for 40 yards and the go-ahead touchdown for Navy (8-4), which defeated Army (2-10) for the 11th straight time and won the CIC Trophy for the second straight season after the prize spent two years at the Air Force Academy.
Trailing 13-10 early in the fourth quarter, the Midshipmen appeared to be headed toward their first loss to the Black Knights since 2001 as Army mounted a time-consuming 10-play drive. However, Eric Osteen’s 37-yard field goal attempt hooked left.
Reynolds took advantage on the ensuing possession, dodging two defenders to gain 11 yards to pick up a critical first down before connecting with Brandon Turner on a 49-yard throw down the field on the next play. Reynolds then completed the 80-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown run with 4:41 remaining.
Army answered with another long drive, but Larry Dixon fumbled the exchange on a dive play from quarterback Trent Steelman at the Navy 14 and Barry Dabney recovered the loose ball. The Midshipmen ran out the final 64 seconds to preserve the victory.
