Florida 28, East Carolina 20: Adam Lane rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown as the Gators held off the Pirates at the Birmingham Bowl.
Treon Harris went 5-of-11 for 123 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for Florida (7-5) before leaving with an injury in the second half. Harris also rushed for 41 yards and Demarcus Robinson had six catches for 36 yards.
Shane Carden went 34-of-66 for 427 yards, two TDs and two interceptions for East Carolina (8-5), which outgained the Gators 536-339. Justin Hardy had 11 catches for 160 yards and a touchdown and Cam Worthy added eight receptions for 130 yards and a score.
Carden hit Hardy for a 3-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter before the Gators scored 21 straight points, starting with Brian Poole's 29-yard interception return. Lane set up his 2-yard score with a 48-yard run and Harris hit Brandon Powell for 13-yard TD with 6:23 left in the first half.
Josh Hawkins' interception on Florida's opening possession of the second half led to Carden's 4-yard TD pass to Worthy but the Gators answered with Ahmad Fulwood's 86-yard catch-and-run score. The Pirates added a pair of field goals and had a chance to tie after recovering their own fumble at the Florida 5-yard line but Vernon Hargreaves III grabbed an interception in the end zone to seal the win.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Florida LB Antonio Morrison left the game with a second-quarter knee injury shortly after becoming the first Gator with 100 tackles since 2010. ... Florida QB Jeff Driskel, who went 8-of-17 for 48 yards, graduated over the summer and has been released from his scholarship and is eligible to play immediately if he transfers. ... Florida had two fumbles and five three-and-outs in its seven possessions after taking a 28-14 lead with 11:20 left in the third quarter.
