No. 25 Utah 45, Colorado State 10: Quarterback Travis Wilson rushed for 91 yards and three scores and also passed for 158 yards and a touchdown as the Utes used an imposing running game to knock off the Rams in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl.
Devontae Booker rushed for 162 yards and one touchdown as Utah (9-4) totaled 359 yards on the ground. Bubba Poole also rushed for a score as the Utes won for the 12th time in their last 13 bowl games.
Garrett Grayson passed for 227 yards and caught a 39-yard touchdown pass for Colorado State (10-3). Charles Lovett threw the TD pass to Grayson as the Rams were coached by Dave Baldwin, the interim fill-in after Jim McElwain departed after accepting the Florida job.
The teams combined for 31 first-quarter points and Wilson scored on an 8-yard run and tossed a 16-yard TD pass to Delshawn McClellon to give the Utes a 14-0 lead. A double-pass play in which Lovett connected with Grayson got the Rams on the board and Booker’s 60-yard jaunt preceded a 41-yard field goal by Colorado State’s Jared Roberts.
Utah led 24-10 at the half before Wilson scored on a 15-yard run to make it a 21-point margin with 4:12 left in the third quarter. Wilson scampered in from 12 yards with 13:23 left in the contest and Poole added a 10-yard TD run 55 seconds later.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Booker finishes the season with a 1,512 rushing yards, second in school history behind John White (1,519 in 2011). … Rams WR Rashard Higgins caught seven passes for 109 yards to finish the season with 96 receptions for 1,749 and 17 touchdowns. … The Utes were 9-of-14 on third-down conversions, while Colorado State was 1-of-10.
