CHICAGO -- Jordan Howard ran for 117 yards and three touchdowns as the Chicago Bears snapped a three-game losing streak with a 26-6 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Soldier Field.
With a steady snow falling throughout the game, Howard anchored the Bears' offense, which produced 19 straight points while sending the 49ers (1-11) to their 11th straight loss.
The Bears (3-9) grabbed a commanding 21-6 lead by reaching the end zone on the first two second-half possessions. Howard's 5-yard touchdown run finished off a 59-yard drive in which quarterback Matt Barkley and Josh Bellamy connected on a pair of long completions that led to Howard's third rushing touchdown.
Howard's second scoring run -- a 2-yarder with 9:32 remaining in the third quarter -- extended what had been a one-point halftime lead. The short run capped an impressive Bears drive to start the second half in which Barkley drove Chicago 75 yards.
Barkley finished the day 11-of-18 passing for 192 yards.
Connor Barth's 45-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter extended Chicago's lead to 24-6. Leonard Floyd capped the scoring with a safety when Leonard Floyd sacked Blaine Gabbert in the end zone with 1:55 remaining.
The Bears' 26 points are their highest offensive output of the season.
After failing to complete a pass until the final two minutes of the first half, Barkley completed three straight throws and marched the Bears down the field. A 49ers pass interference penalty in the end zone set up a Howard 1-yard touchdown run with 31 seconds remaining, which gave the Bears a 7-6 halftime lead.
The 49ers took a 3-0 lead with 6:55 remaining in the first half on a 31-yard Phil Dawson field goal. San Francisco partially blocked a Pat O'Donnell punt, which Rashard Robinson returned inside the Bears' 5-yard line. But an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty pushed the 49ers back, which eventually led to Dawson's field goal.
After the Bears fumbled the ensuing kickoff, San Francisco again moved inside the red zone before stalling at the Chicago 10-yard line. Dawson connected on a 28-yard field goal with 1:56 remaining in the second quarter to give San Francisco a 6-0 lead.
Carlos Hyde ran for 92 yards on 20 carries in the loss.
