Darcy Kuemper earned his second shutout of the season, Alex Galchenyuk and Josh Archibald scored second-period goals, and the Arizona Coyotes defeated the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0 Saturday night at Glendale, Ariz.
Kuemper stopped 21 shots in picking up his 13th career shutout as the Coyotes won both games between the teams this season. The Coyotes are 14-3-1 in the past 18 meetings between the teams.
Frederik Andersen made 27 saves for the Maple Leafs, who are 3-2-0 with one game left on a six-game trip.
The Coyotes have won three of their past four games after losing five in a row.
Arizona outshot Toronto 11-4 in the first period. Archibald had a breakaway for the Coyotes nine minutes into the first, but he slid the puck wide of the goal.
The Coyotes took the lead at 3:19 of the second period when Galchenyuk knocked in Jordan Oesterle's diagonal pass from the left point to the edge of the crease for his 13th goal of the season.
Arizona took a 2-0 lead at 5:59 of the second when Archibald notched his seventh goal this season, coming from the slot, on a rebound from Derek Stepan's attempt.
Toronto went on the power play for the third time in the game at 13:53 of the second period when Arizona defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson took a four-minute high-sticking penalty after Connor Brown was cut on the face.
Kuemper made three good saves during the Maple Leafs' man-advantage situation, including one on Auston Matthews, who grew up in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Arizona had a 19-11 edge in shots on goal after two periods.
At 2:53 of the third period, William Nylander put the puck into the net for Toronto with a high stick and it was ruled no goal.
Arizona had its first power play of the game when Toronto defenseman Jake Gardiner was penalized for slashing at 9:05 of the third. The best Arizona could do was hit a goal post.
Andersen was moved for an added attacker with more than three minutes remaining.
Toronto's Andreas Johnsson sat out with a leg injury he picked up Thursday, and Tyler Ennis took his spot, playing for the first time since suffering a broken ankle Dec. 12.
