Evander Kane has made quite an impact in this series, recording a couple of points and piling up the shots through three appearances.

My Oilers vs. Kings expect Kane to continue firing away in Game 5. Let’s break it down in my NHL picks for April 29.

Who will win Oilers vs Kings Game 5?

It’s hard to go against the Los Angeles Kings. They were the most successful home team in the NHL during the regular season and won the first two games of this series on home soil. If not for a couple of late leads blown in the third period of Games 3 and 4, this could have been a sweep.

The Kings are a better defensive team than the Edmonton Oilers; they have more depth, an edge in goal, and they’ll be able to secure the matchups they want back on home ice.

Back L.A. to reclaim a series lead in Game 5.

Oilers vs Kings prediction

My Oilers vs Kings pick: Evander Kane Over 1.5 shots (-140 at BET99)

Evander Kane has been a shooting machine since being inserted into the Oilers' lineup. He's played just three games and hit the ground running, piling up a whopping 20 shot attempts. All of them came during 5-on-5 play.

Kane leads Oilers forwards in 5-on-5 shot attempts over the last three games despite playing at least 10 fewer minutes than the likes of Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Kane has been extremely efficient, to say the least.

The Oilers have moved Draisaitl and McDavid around a lot, often splitting time on the same line as well as different units.

Regardless of how Kris Knoblach has opted to use the team’s two superstar forwards, Kane has always been asked to drive his own unit away from each of them.

That’s certainly a plus for Kane. It leads to more touches, but equally as important, also gets him away from the most difficult matchups. This gives him a better chance of making things happen offensively.

Knoblach clearly likes what he’s seeing from Kane. After playing 13-14 minutes over the first two games back in the lineup, Knoblach unleashed Kane on Sunday night and gave him more 5-on-5 ice than all but Draisaitl and McDavid amongst forwards.

Kane has always generated shots efficiently. If he’s also going to see his usage ramped up, he has an excellent chance of testing Darcy Kuemper at least a couple of times.

Oilers vs Kings same-game parlay (SGP)

Evander Kane Over 1.5 shots

Leon Draisaitl Over 2.5 shots

Adrian Kempe Over 2.5 shots

Leon Draisaitl has a fantastic track record against the Kings — a team he sees a painful amount of. Draisaitl has cleared 2.5 shots in three of four games in this series and 17 of the last 21 head-to-head meetings dating back a couple of years.

Edmonton has had to lean heavily on Draisaitl to claw its way back into the series. With the team struggling so much during minutes its depth lines are on the ice, it's going to give Draisaitl all the minutes he can handle.

Finally, we have to jump on the Adrian Kempe train. He has a 90% hit rate against the Oilers dating back years, and he has at least three shots in 22 of his last 23 games against Edmonton. Yes, you’re reading that correctly.

Kempe is averaging 4.5 shots on more than eight attempts per game in this series. His highest attempt outputs came in Game 1 and 2 on home soil as well.
