Best NHL Player Prop Bets Today, April 28: The Captain's Log

Gabriel Landeskog has shaken off the rust from a long layoff from injury and we expect him to play an offensive role in Game 5 vs. the Stars. Additionally, we're looking to Victor Hedman and Sam Bennett from the Lightning-Panthers series.

It’s a Monday two-game slate with a pair of key series that could get very interesting depending on the outcome. Despite the four teams in action, there are some great spots for player props.

These are my favorite NHL player props for Monday, April 28.

NHL player prop bets today

  • Lightning Hedman o2.5 shots (+150)
  • Avalanche Landeskog o0.5 points (-105)
  • Panthers Bennett o0.5 points (-105)

Best NHL player prop bets for April 28

Victor Hedman Over 2.5 shots on goal (+150 at Sports Interaction)

Victor Hedman has great road splits for shots on goal, averaging 2.4 per road game compared to 1.8 at home. Defensemen seem to get better shooting opportunities on the road as the home team shuts down the opposing top-scoring line. There are fewer grade-A scoring chances because of it and the offense tends to be filtered through the defense.

It’s also the playoffs, and getting those low-to-high shots on net is a lot more frequent.

Another good angle here is Hedman is shooting a ton but not getting a lot on the net. He has a better SAT/60 than his Tampa Bay Lightning teammates Jake Guentzel and Brayden Point but sits down the list at 2.3 SOG/60 which is a number that should improve with the frequency of his shot attempts.

Gabriel Landeskog Over 0.5 points (-105 at Sports Interaction)

Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog’s return to the ice is an incredible story. He is knocking off the rust and getting more minutes.

In his first game back, he skated for just 13 minutes and added another 90 seconds in Game 4. He should be around 15-16 minutes today, but the biggest reason for this prop is where he is with the man advantage.

Landeskog is skating on the second line at 5-on-5 but has been promoted to the top power play, which has three goals in the series. It’s a decent price for any skater on this unit and his Over 0.5 PP points at +350 is possibly the most appetizing prop at that price.

I’m happy with the near-even-money point prop as they are on the road and this second line at even strength could play a big role vs. the Dallas Stars and their weak blueline.

Sam Bennett Over 0.5 points (-105 at Sports Interaction)

This is going to be a perfect Sam Bennett game. Brandon Hagel will return from suspension and the Bolts aren’t thrilled about the Jake Guentzel hit. This could be a very chippy game that will benefit Bennett’s style of play.

He is also getting decent minutes with the second line with Evan Rodrigues and Matthew Tkachuk who might be seeing more TOI as Alex Barkov gets his legs back.

There is also a chance Bennett will move up to PP1 today. Mackie Samoskevich has been demoted to the fourth line and might not stay on the top PP unit. There may be a ton of penalties today and if one of the guys on the first power-play unit is in the box, Bennett is elevated and gets more chances to cash in.
