Arizona @ New York preview
Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
Last Meeting ( Mar 24, 2019 ) Arizona 0, NY Islanders 2
The Arizona Coyotes scored just one goal in dropping their first two games of the season, but they have stormed back with a vengeance, earning points in six straight games and reeling off four victories in a row. The Coyotes attempt to keep the good vibes going against another team on a roll when they visit the New York Islanders on Thursday night.
Arizona, which has missed the playoffs for the past seven seasons, kicked off its four-game road trip with a 3-2 overtime victory at the New York Rangers on Tuesday. "We're just having fun," defenseman Alex Goligoski said. "We feel good about our game, trying to do the right things. We have everybody going." New York also is coming off an overtime triumph at Columbus to extend its winning streak to four games -- with three of the victories coming by one goal. "This is a good league," Islanders coach Barry Trotz said of the string of narrow decisions. "There's not much separating anybody, so you've got to weather the storms."
TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Arizona, FS Arizona-Plus, MSG-Plus (New York)
ABOUT THE COYOTES (5-2-1): Although goaltender Darcy Kuemper was not tested much by the Rangers, making 17 saves, he extended his franchise record by limiting an opponent to two goals or fewer for the 13th consecutive start. That streak included a 2-0 setback on March 24 to the Islanders, who also pulled out a 3-1 decision against Kuemper in December, giving him a 1-3-1 mark and 3.13 goals-against average in six appearances (five starts) versus New York. Nick Schmaltz is riding a six-game point streak to take over the team lead with nine.
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (5-3-0): Casey Cizikas practiced for a second straight day and Tom Kuhnhackl returned to the ice Wednesday, but Leo Komarov missed his third straight practice due to illness. Brock Nelson and Anthony Beauvillier each had two points at Columbus while playing with Michael Dal Colle, although Derick Brassard skated alongside the duo at Wednesday's practice. "I think you can see the confidence that Beau is carrying right now as a player, and you can see the confidence that Brock has," Trotz said. "That's part of the growth of both of them."
