The Winnipeg Jets have been as good as anybody offensively through the first quarter of the season. They’ve scored a league-leading 84 goals spanning just 20 games.
Star players like Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, and Josh Morrissey have piled up the points while getting plenty of support from players below them in the lineup.
The Jets are likely to cause real problems for the Nashville Predators, who sit in the bottom 10 in preventing goals and own a league-worst -23 goal differential at 5v5.
Winnipeg had also scored more power-play goals than any other team. Although Nashville’s penalty kill has performed well, the Predators have spent more time shorthanded than all but four teams.
The Jets should have ample opportunity to work on the man advantage. Based on their success thus far, that’s a recipe for goals.
The Predators should be able to contribute their fair share to the total as well. They’ve scored multiple goals in six of the past eight games and the offensive underlying metrics are trending in the right direction.
Superstar goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will also be getting the night off, making way for backup Eric Comrie.
The Jets have played very high-scoring games with Comrie between the pipes, combining for 30 goals over his first four starts of the season (7.5 per). Expect an abundance of goals at Bridgestone Arena tonight.
