Last Meeting ( Sep 17, 2019 ) Philadelphia 2, NY Islanders 3
The New York Islanders attempt to extend their winning streak to seven games when they begin a stretch in which they play six of seven at home Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers. New York, which won't leave the state during that span as its road contest is in Buffalo, has yielded fewer than three goals in each game of the run.
The Islanders' latest triumph came Friday, when defenseman Nick Leddy recorded two goals - including one on a penalty shot - and an assist in a 4-2 victory at Ottawa. New York has received balanced scoring during its solid start to the season as 19 skaters have recorded points while the team lead in goals (four) is shared by three players. Philadelphia has poured it on offensively during its three-game winning streak, registering 17 goals - including the final five in the third period on Saturday en route to a 7-5 triumph over Columbus. James van Riemsdyk scored twice and set up another in the win for the Flyers, who are beginning a three-game road trip.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Philadelphia, MSG Plus (New York)
ABOUT THE FLYERS (5-3-1): Travis Konecny scored a power-play goal against the Blue Jackets to increase his team-leading point total to 12 - nine of which have been recorded at home, including the season opener in the Czech Republic. The 22-year-old center has landed on the scoresheet in eight of his nine games but has notched only three assists in four road contests. Kevin Hayes and Jakub Voracek each registered a goal and two assists Saturday, with the latter pulling within two of 200 for his career.
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (7-3-0): Josh Bailey was held off the scoresheet Friday, keeping him two points behind Billy Harris (443) for 13th place on the franchise list and three assists shy of 300 in the NHL. Brock Nelson, who is tied for the team lead in goals and tops the club with nine points, has recorded more tallies (27), assists (26) and points in October during his career than any other month. The 28-year-old center has registered four two-point performances in his last seven games for the Islanders, who are enjoying their longest winning streak in the month of October since capturing eight straight in 1982 and haven't won seven consecutive contests in a season since 1990.
