Chicago @ Los Angeles preview
Staples Center
Last Meeting ( Oct 27, 2019 ) Los Angeles 1, Chicago 5
The Chicago Blackhawks have been shut out in two of their last three games, with the exception resulting in a season-high goal total in a victory over the Los Angeles Kings. The Blackhawks, who have lost five of six overall, look to get back on track Saturday at the expense of the reeling Kings at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Dylan Strome (two goals, one assist) and Alex DeBrincat (one goal, two assists) each recorded three-point performances in Chicago's 5-1 victory over Los Angeles on Sunday, but the Blackhawks' road woes continued in the opener of their four-game trek two nights later. "Overall, we've typically been playing hard and I guess (Tuesday night) is a reminder that that's a non-negotiable thing," Chicago coach Jeremy Colliton said on the heels of a 3-0 setback in Nashville. "We had very few guys even at an average level." Kings coach Todd McLellan isn't singing the praises of his charges after they surrendered five goals in each contest of their four-game losing streak. "We'll have to do a deep look at who's getting scored on and why they're getting scored on," McLellan said after Wednesday's 5-3 setback versus Vancouver. "We've already done it, but we'll do it again."

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (3-6-2): Chicago reached out to Rockford of the American Hockey League and recalled defenseman Adam Boqvist, who likely will make his NHL debut sometime during the California road trip. The 19-year-old Swede, who was selected by the Blackhawks with the eighth overall pick of the 2018 NHL Draft, scored his first goal as a professional in the IceHogs' 6-2 win over San Antonio on Wednesday. "He's obviously a very skilled offensive guy, he's got a lot of skills," two-time Norris Trophy recipient Duncan Keith said, per The Athletic. "So for me, it's just about being as good as I can be. The better I can play, the easier I can make it on him."
ABOUT THE KINGS (4-9-0): Jeff Carter has answered a sluggish start to the season by scoring four times in his last six games, highlighted by his first multi-goal performance since March 29, 2018, in the setback against the Canucks. The 34-year-old shares the team lead in goals (four) with captain Anze Kopitar, who set up the first of Carter's tallies on Wednesday to become the fifth Kings player to record 900 points, joining Marcel Dionne (1,307), Luc Robitaille (1,154), Dave Taylor (1,069) and Wayne Gretzky (918) in rarified air with the franchise. "Well, it will probably take a little while before that sinks in," said the 32-year-old Kopitar, who reached the mark in 1,016 games. "But, yeah, I knew it was coming up. I figured it would be a good time to do it tonight but, unfortunately, it's obviously bittersweet cause we lost."
