Last Meeting ( Feb 27, 2019 ) Chicago 4, Anaheim 3
Captain Ryan Getzlaf is scheduled to become the first player to log 1,000 games for the franchise as the Anaheim Ducks host the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night seeking their fourth win in five contests. Getzlaf, who has spent his entire career with the organization, is second in points (933) behind Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne (988) and first in assists (665) for the Ducks, who will also celebrate the 2,000th game in team history Sunday.
“It’s very humbling,” Getzlaf told the Orange County Register before becoming the 336th to play 1,000 games in the NHL. “I look back now a little more than I have in the past, especially at playing 1,000 games with one organization. The time I’ve put into this organization and the time they’ve put into me, my growth, is a pretty big accomplishment, and an honor for me.” Getzlaf scored the winner in overtime as Anaheim triumphed 2-1 against Vancouver on Friday to start its seven-game homestand with two victories and looks to turn the tables on the Blackhawks after they won two of three in the 2018-19 season series. Chicago rallied to tie the game twice before falling 4-3 in overtime at Los Angeles on Saturday for its sixth setback in the past seven contests. Captain Jonathan Toews scored the tying goal late in the third period Saturday and former Hart Trophy winner Patrick Kane had an assist to become the first Blackhawk to reach double figures in points (three goals, seven assists) this season.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (3-6-3): Forwards Dominik Kubalik and David Kampf each scored goals for Chicago in the loss to Kings while Toews managed just his third point of the season after going scoreless in the previous six contests. Center Kirby Dach, who was picked third overall in last June’s draft, notched his third point with an assist Saturday after being held off the scoresheet in three straight games. Robin Lehner (2-2-2, .938 save percentage), who came on to make five stops on five attempts in the middle of Saturday’s game, is likely to get the start Sunday and is one victory away from 100 for his career.
ABOUT THE DUCKS (9-6-0): Anaheim missed the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons in 2018-19, but it has gotten off to a strong start with first-year coach Dallas Eakins while dominating at home (6-1-0). “When you win, you have a chance to have fun,” Getzlaf told reporters. “We created a new atmosphere around here and that’s helped us breathe new life into things. Yes, we’re having fun and we’re enjoying it, but mostly it’s a new challenge and new perspective on showing up at the rink.” Jakob Silfverberg leads the team with 12 points - two more than Getzlaf - and fellow forward Adam Henrique has a team-high eight goals.
