Vegas @ Detroit preview
Little Caesars Arena
Last Meeting ( Mar 23, 2019 ) Detroit 3, Vegas 2
The Detroit Red Wings hope to get a boost from beating one of the league’s best teams, with the help of a newcomer, when they complete a two-game stretch at home against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday night. The Red Wings snapped a four-game slide with a 4-2 victory over Boston (11-3-2) on Friday with a pair of power-play goals from forward Robby Fabbri, who was acquired from St. Louis two days earlier.
Detroit had an edge in shots, hits and won the special teams battle against the Bruins for its second win in 14 games and goalie Jonathan Bernier told reporters: “I thought it was a team effort tonight. … Everyone was on the same page. Everyone worked hard.” The road team has won all four previous meetings as the Red Wings try to post their first winning streak since opening the season with a pair of victories and Vegas attempts to avoid a three-game slide. The Golden Knights opened their four-game trip with a win in Columbus, but lost in overtime at Toronto on Thursday before dropping a 5-2 decision at Washington on Saturday after giving up the only two goals of the final period. Max Pacioretty scored for the third time in four games this month Saturday while fellow forward Reilly Smith has scored three times in three contests to become the first Vegas player to reach 10 goals this season.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (9-6-3): Right wing Mark Stone was held off the scoresheet for third straight game Saturday, but leads the team with 18 points - two more than center William Karlsson, who did not have a shot on net against Washington. Veteran center Paul Stastny remains three points shy of 700 in his career after being blanked in each of his last five games, following a stretch in which he scored five times and set up another four over nine contests. Marc-Andre Fleury (9-4-1) gave up four goals on 33 shots and could give way to backup Malcolm Subban, who stopped 35 shots in the 2-1 overtime loss at Toronto on Thursday.
ABOUT THE RED WINGS (5-12-1): Fabbri, a former first-round pick who recorded a career-high 18 goals in 2015-16 as a rookie, had scored once in nine games with St. Louis before being dealt to Detroit for fellow forward Jacob de la Rose. “Robby (Fabbri) looks like a guy who can score ...,” coach Jeff Blashill told reporters. “We gave him an opportunity (on the power play) and he did a great job. We’re not expecting two goals every night, but he played hard and did the things he needs to do.” Right wing Anthony Mantha had a goal and an assist Friday and leads the team with 17 points - one more than left wing Tyler Bertuzzi.
