Detroit @ Anaheim preview

Last Meeting ( Oct 8, 2019 ) Anaheim 3, Detroit 1
The Anaheim Ducks had hoped to capitalized on a favorable portion of the schedule and make a move up the Pacific Division standings, but the team is trending in the wrong direction with two to play on their seven-game homestand. The struggling Ducks seek to avoid a season-worst fourth consecutive defeat when they host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.
Despite having four days off after a 4-2 setback to Minnesota, among the league's worst road teams, Anaheim was steamrolled by Connor McDavid and Edmonton in a 6-2 rout Sunday. "There's no reason to be flat," captain Ryan Getzlaf said. "We had a few good days of practice. We had some rest days. ... Whatever the reason is for that, we gotta find something here to get going and get a good day's work tomorrow and get ready for the next one." The Red Wings were in a brutal slide, dropping 12 of 13 (1-11-1) before regrouping to post home wins over Boston and Vegas over the weekend. "It's going to be three hard games every second night on this trip," Detroit forward Anthony Mantha said of the upcoming three-game trek. "We need to focus on Anaheim, they're a big, strong team. We know they're going to be intense, especially at home."

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (6-12-1): Forward Justin Abdelkader suffered a mid-body injury, according to coach Jeff Blashill, in Sunday's win over Vegas and is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks. "He'll be out for an extended period of time. I don't know the exact timeline, it depends on how it heals," Blashill said Monday. "I would say minimum of three weeks and it could be longer than that. We'll just keep giving you updates as the healing process goes." Robby Fabbri had two goals and an assist in two games since he was acquired from St. Louis.
ABOUT THE DUCKS (9-8-1): Anaheim's power play continues to be an exercise in futility, whiffing on all five chances against Edmonton and ranking 30th in the league with a success rate of 8.5 percent (4-for-47). "I don't think you can point to one thing in particular," defenseman Cam Fowler said. "There's a lot that goes into a power play. The biggest thing is you have to have that killer instinct and tenacity. ... We have to hunt down pucks. We have to get pucks to the net." Rickard Rakell has scored in two straight following a nine-game goal drought.
