Last Meeting ( Mar 24, 2019 ) Philadelphia 1, Washington 3

The Washington Capitals were victimized by a sluggish start and an unfortunate offside call in overtime before seeing their six-game winning streak come to a halt in their last encounter. The Capitals look to shake off the effects of a rare loss on Wednesday when they carry a 12-game point streak (10-0-2) into Philadelphia to face the Flyers, who have won a season-high four in a row.

Washington surrendered the contest's first three goals on Monday before Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the next two to record his fourth straight multi-point performance (three goals, six assists), albeit in a 4-3 shootout loss to Arizona. "It's always fun when he gets in those modes, to have a front-row seat on the bench and watch," fellow forward T.J. Oshie said of the 27-year-old Russian, per the Washington Post. Philadelphia's point streak is half of that of Metropolitan Division-leading Washington, as the upstart Flyers ventured past regulation for the fifth time in six games (5-0-1) with a 3-2 shootout victory at Boston on Sunday. "It's a fresh start, and everybody is believing and trusting our systems right now and we're sticking to it," forward Travis Konecny said of new coach Alain Vigneault. "We've seen his past success, and we believe in what he's teaching us. We’re just a bunch of sponges and soaking it all up."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (13-2-4): While Kuznetsov's impressive night marked the franchise-best ninth straight game that a Washington player recorded a two-goal performance, the Capitals were denied a victory when officials deemed Oshie was offside on his apparent overtime goal. "Bit of a buzzkill there; we thought that we (completed the comeback)," forward Tom Wilson said. "But that is the way it goes sometimes. ... It shows the character in the room to be able to come back, and pretty proud of the guys to battle to the end." Captain Alex Ovechkin, who set up Oshie's game-tying goal with 1:16 remaining in the third period, has tormented Philadelphia throughout his career with 59 points (34 goals, 25 assists) in 53 games.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (10-5-2): Konecny continued his strong start to the season by scoring his team high-tying eighth goal on Sunday to extend his point streak to four games (two goals, three assists) before adding an assist on defenseman Philippe Myers' tally for his club-best 19th point. "I felt I could score in this league," the 22-year-old said, per the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I just wanted to work hard in the summer and come back and be the same player I was in the last (part of the season). That's the thing I was thinking about, and now I've started good and just have to keep going." Linemate Oskar Lindblom, who is tied with Konecny with eight goals, has seven points in his last seven games (three goals, four assists) and Sean Couturier has eight (three goals, five assists) in that same span.

OVERTIME

1. Philadelphia RW Jakub Voracek, who has 199 career goals, tallied twice and had two assists in the season series versus Washington in 2018-19.

2. The Capitals have scored at least one goal in the second period of every game this season.

3. Myers is the 10th rookie defenseman since 1989-90 to notch a three-game goal streak, per NHL Public Relations.

PREDICTION: Capitals 4, Flyers 2
