Last Meeting ( Feb 15, 2019 ) Edmonton 1, Carolina 3

The Carolina Hurricanes earned two satisfying victories on a quick homestand and look to carry that momentum on the road as they begin a challenging five-game trip Tuesday night against the Edmonton Oilers. The Hurricanes grinded out a 3-2 shootout victory over San Jose on Thursday before getting a hat trick and a career-high five points from Sebastian Aho en route to a 6-2 rout of Minnesota two days later.

“It’s going to be a long, tough road trip for us, so it was really good to get these points at home,” Aho told reporters after recording his third career hat trick, giving him a team-high 16 goals this season and 99 in his career. “We want to keep building on this.” Carolina is in the middle of a tight race in the Metropolitan Division as it prepares to also visit Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg and Colorado on its trek and won four of the last five meetings with Edmonton, which has lost four of its past six overall (2-3-1). The Oilers gave up the first two goals while not receiving a point from either of the league’s leading scorers - Leon Draisaitl or Connor McDavid - for the fourth time this season in Sunday’s 3-2 overtime loss to Buffalo, and is 1-1-1 as it completes a four-game homestand. “It’s tough to say what’s wrong,” Edmonton defenseman Oscar Klefbom told reporters. “We’ve tried to get a winning streak going here, but it’s not going to happen if we’re not ready from the start. … We should be in the front seat in a game like this and outwork these guys.”

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS Carolinas, Sportsnet West (Edmonton)

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (18-11-1): Left wing Teuvo Teravainen assisted on three of the goals Saturday, two by Aho and another from the team’s leading scorer Andrei Svechnikov (32 points). “The elite players know where everyone is on the ice,” coach Rod Brind’Amour told reporters of Teravainen, who is second on the team with 29 points. “The best players don’t need to look around. They know where everybody is. He’s had that ability. It was special (Saturday), for sure.” Brind’Amour said center Erik Haula (knee) would not make the trip and Carolina recalled forward Julien Gauthier.

ABOUT THE OILERS (18-10-4): Draisaitl had five of his league-leading 53 points in three games before being blanked Sunday and McDavid has been limited to one (assist) of his 52 points in the past three contests. Edmonton welcomed the return of forwards Zack Kassian (three games, back) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (six, hand) from injuries Sunday, but neither was able to make the scoresheet while combining for one shot. Left wing Joakim Nygard, a 26-year-old rookie from Sweden, registered his first career two-point game Sunday with a goal and an assist after being held off the scoresheet in his previous eight contests.

OVERTIME

2. Edmonton’s Mikko Koskinen (11-3-2) allowed six goals in his last three games, but is 0-2-0 in two career contests against the Hurricanes.
