The Vancouver Canucks will look to make it consecutive road wins when they head to TD Garden to take on the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, November 26.

While winger Brock Boeser (concussion) potentially returning to the lineup could give the visitors a boost, our Canucks vs. Bruins predictions anticipate Vancouver defenseman Quinn Hughes piling up shots per usual tonight.

Our NHL picks are bullish on Vancouver's premier D-man ahead of tonight's puck drop at 7:00 p.m. ET on Sportsnet.

My Canucks analysis

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes has shown an uptick in shot volume this season and ranks second with 8.59 per 60 minutes while pacing the club with 21.23 attempts per 60.

Hughes has recorded three or more shots in 12 of 19 games, and one of the seven he failed to reach the benchmark came when he was booted for boarding after logging just 5:12 of ice time against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. He still recorded two shots.

The Canucks captain ranks in the 98th percentile in shots among defensemen, and he’s in the 99th percentile in long-range shots.

Hughes averages 24:15 of ice time per game, including 3:46 quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit, and he’s also taking 63.1% of his 5-on-5 faceoffs in the offensive zone. Add the Norris Trophy candidate leading the club with an elite 61.8 Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5, and he’s positioned to have the ice tilted in his favor again Tuesday against the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins received the new-coach bump with Joe Sacco leading them to their first back-to-back regulation wins of the season. Additionally, while Boston has limited opponent’s shots with the Detroit Red Wings and Utah Hockey Club combining for just 42 across the two games, the Bruins still sport a below-the-mark 49.3 CF% at 5-on-5.

Additionally, allowing an average of 21 shots per game isn’t sustainable, and Vancouver enters with a ninth-ranked 52.5 CF% and 51.2 shot share for the season. For comparison, Boston has respective 24th-ranks 48.3% and 27th-ranked 47.3% marks.

Canucks vs Bruins Odds analysis

There has been an early move to the Vancouver side of this moneyline with the opening Canucks +116 at Pinnacle dropping to +108 as of Tuesday morning. A simple explanation is Vancouver sporting a 7-1 road record, in addition to the highlighted gaps in the possession numbers, and the Canucks also sporting the higher expected goals percentage at 5-on-5.

Similarly, the Under has taken early action at Pinnacle, which aligns with the Bruins allowing just a single goal and only scoring three times across the past two games with Sacco calling the shots. Additionally, Boston is 2-7-1 to the Under across its past 10 games and 9-12-1 for the year.
