Capitals vs Canadiens Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Playoffs Game 3

Goals have been hard to come by through two games of this Capitals-Canadiens series, and our NHL betting picks expect that theme to continue even as the venue shifts to Montreal tonight.

The Montreal Canadiens are still looking for their first playoff win since 2021 as they return home for Game 3 against the Washington Capitals.

My Capitals vs. Canadiens predictions and NHL picks are expecting another low-scoring game on Friday, April 25.

Who will win Capitals vs Canadiens Game 3?

The first two games of this series have followed similar paths. The Montreal Canadiens had more shot attempts than the Capitals at 5-on-5 — 62-54 in Game 1 and 63-55 in Game 2 — but the Washington Capitals' 2-1 goal edge in each contest is all that matters.

The Canadiens should get a boost from coming home, though, as they went 23-12-6 at Bell Centre this season as opposed to 17-19-5 on the road.

The Habs have shown enough against Washington to give them some hope, and I’m expecting them to make it a series with a win in Game 3 as slight underdogs.

Capitals vs Canadiens prediction

My Capitals vs Canadiens pick: Under 5.5 (+100 at Sports Interaction)

There have been a total of nine goals through two games in this series, and that includes an empty netter with two seconds left in Game 2. So there have been eight goals scored on a goalie through two games, and we’re getting the Under 5.5 at +100? Sign me up.

The low-scoring games haven’t been anything new for these squads either. Both the Capitals and Canadiens faded down the stretch of the regular season with their goal-scoring drying up.

Dating back to April 6, the Capitals have scored three goals or fewer in seven of eight contests with a total of 18 goals in that span. The Canadiens have scored more than three goals just once in their last six games and twice in their last nine. In total, Montreal has 21 goals in its last nine games.

Logan Thompson and Sam Montembeault have been able to erase chances at both sides of the ice in this series, and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue. Look for the Habs to step up at home ice in what could very well be another game that’s tied 2-2 after regulation.

Capitals vs Canadiens same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 5.5

Canadiens moneyline

Juraj Slafkovsky anytime goal

Juraj Slafkovsky has yet to record a point in this series, but it hasn’t been for a lack of trying. According to Natural Stat Trick, Slafkovsky leads the Habs with 1.01 expected goals generated at 5-on-5 with 14 shot attempts, seven scoring chances, and four high-danger chances. He came inches from tying it up late in Game 2.

Slafkovsky is a big body in front of the net for the Canadiens and he’s been knocking on the door. He can help the Habs get going on home ice.
