Hurricanes vs Devils Prediction, Picks & Odds for Friday’s NHL Playoffs Game 3

Timo Meier has come up empty-handed through the first two games of the series, but with the matchup shifting back to New Jersey, we expect the Devils winger to break his cold spell.

New Jersey Devils forward Timo Meier has piled up a ton of scoring opportunities against the Carolina Hurricanes, but he has failed to make any of them count in this series.

Down 2-0 and heading home to Newark with their backs against the wall, my Hurricanes vs. Devils predictions see that changing in Game 3.

Let’s break things down with my NHL picks for Friday, April 25.

Who will win Hurricanes vs Devils Game 3?

The Hurricanes were the better team over the first two games of the series, but it wasn’t as if the Devils didn’t test them.

New Jersey generated 7.09 expected goals but only scored two times. Even without Jack Hughes in the mix, the Devils should convert on more of their chances in Game 3.

Facing a Hurricanes team that won just 16 of 41 road games during the regular season, perhaps some of that regression will kick in.

My Hurricanes vs Devils pick: Timo Meier anytime goal (+230 at Sports Interaction)

I backed Timo Meier for a goal last time out, but the chips didn’t fall our way. Despite 10 shot attempts, five scoring chances, four rebound opportunities, and 1.18 expected goals, the New Jersey Devils winger was unable to find the back of the net.

That’s been the story of the series thus far for Meier, who has generated chances as efficiently as anybody in the league this postseason.

Meier has recorded five scoring chances in each game and tallied 1.79 expected goals, second-most league-wide behind only Kevin Fiala. Of the Top-8 players in expected goals generated, Meier is the only one yet to find the back of the net.

He is a former 40-goal scorer and one of the driving forces for New Jersey’s offense. It’s not as if failing to convert on these opportunities is to be expected. As long as the chances continue to be there, it’s only a matter of time before he finally breaks through.

Playing back on home soil could help give him the extra push needed. Head coach Sheldon Keefe will now possess the last change and be able to get Meier additional shifts, limiting the Carolina Hurricanes' ability to dictate the matchup with their best defensive personnel.

Meier has also been very productive on home soil without Jack Hughes, finding the back of the net five times over the last six home dates. Comparatively, he has only scored once spanning the last six road games.

Look for Meier to do some home cooking in Game 3.

Hurricanes vs Devils same-game parlay (SGP)

Timo Meier anytime goal

Dougie Hamilton 2+ shots

Taylor Hall 2+ shots

Dougie Hamilton has been a one-man shooting gallery in this series, attempting 15 shots through just two games.

With the Devils severely lacking scoring depth up front, they need Hamilton to get involved as much as possible. He should continue firing away in New Jersey, where he recorded four shots on 11 attempts in his only home game since returning from injury.

Taylor Hall has also generated shots at a strong clip, combining for nine attempts while clearing 1.5 shots in both Games 1 and 2. He has recorded multiple shots in six straight contests, generating 3+ in four of the last five.
