It’s the rubber match of a three-game set between AL West rivals when the division-leading Texas Rangers are in Sacramento to take on the Oakland A’s.

Texas took the opener 8-5, with the A's winning on Wednesday 5-2. Our Rangers vs. A’s prediction has the teams stuck in a low-scoring affair on Thursday.

Rangers vs A's prediction

My Rangers vs A's best bet: Under 8.5 (+100 at Caesars)

The Texas Rangers must feel like they’re in a scoring bonanza in Northern California. This team averages just 3.21 runs per game this season, ranking 28th out of the 30 teams in baseball. Texas has plated 10 runs across the first two games of this series: they totaled 21 runs across their previous nine games (2.33 runs per game average).

They send J.T. Ginn to the mound, who will be making his third start of the season. He’s 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA so far. Ginn was roughed up last outing, lasting just 4 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs, walking two and striking out seven.

Rangers vs A's same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 8.5

Jacob deGrom Under 5.5 strikeouts

Lawrence Butler Over 1.5 total bases

DeGrom will be making just his 14th start across three seasons with the Rangers, but his last outing was a reminder of how electric a pitcher he was in his prime. Most fans would love to see him string together a series of solid outings. His seven strikeouts were the most he’s had in a start since 2023, when he fanned 11 Athletics in a 5-2 win.

However, the A’s are baseball’s best team at avoiding strikeouts, with 163 total as a team. That rates out to 7.08 per game, which ranks second to just San Diego. He’ll come close, but look for DeGrom to stay Under this strikeout total.

We’ll wrap with Lawrence Butler, who's hit home runs in back-to-back games in this series. The A’s leadoff man has hits in eight of his last nine games and has at least two total bases in five of those games. He’s yet to face DeGrom in his career, but is hitting .294 this season against righties.
