Toronto @ Vancouver preview
Rogers Arena
Last Meeting ( Mar 6, 2019 ) Toronto 2, Vancouver 3
The Toronto Maple Leafs continue their four-game road trip Tuesday when they face the Vancouver Canucks, who are looking for their third straight victory on home ice. Toronto will have to keep the potent Canucks' power-play at bay as Vancouver leads the NHL with 31 goals with the man advantage while the Maple Leafs have given up 23 short-handed goals - tied for fifth-most in the league.
Vancouver let a two-goal third period lead slip away but held on for a 6-5 victory over Buffalo on Saturday thanks to forward J.T. Miller’s sixth power play goal - and his team-best 13th overall - that came 3:21 into overtime. “We’ve talked about the same thing the last couple of weeks, staying with it no matter what happens during a game,” Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers told the media Saturday after scoring his first goal with the team. “We would have liked to have finished it off in 60 (minutes) but to do it in overtime was a good way for our group to keep playing the same way.” Toronto kicked off its road trip with a much-needed 5-2 win against the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues on Saturday following a pair of crushing defeats last week to Philadelphia and Colorado that saw the Maple Leafs get outscored 9-2 over the two games. “Obviously, playing with the lead is better than not,” Toronto goaltender Frederik Andersen told reporters after making 26 saves Saturday. “You’re not chasing anything. Trying to keep it simple. You keep pushing but you don’t have to force anything down the middle.”

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (14-13-4): Auston Matthews broke out of a season-high five-game goalless drought by potting two against the Blues, which gives the 22-year-old 18 on the season. In his second game back after missing 11 with an ankle injury, right winger Mitch Marner contributed two assists Saturday and has 11 goals and 37 assists in his last 37 games against the Western Conference. Morgan Reilly finished first among NHL defensemen with a career-high 20 goals a season ago but has struggled this season with three in 31 games.
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (15-11-4): Forward Antoine Roussel scored twice Saturday and has three goals in two games since returning from knee surgery that left the native of France on the shelf for the eight months. “Even though I scored today I felt like I had some plays that I could have done better,” Roussel told reporters. “There are small details in the game I would like to do better. We found a way to win so that’s good.” The Canucks are looking to garner consecutive Calder Trophy winners as Elias Pettersson won the award last season and Quinn Hughes is making his case stronger each game as the 20-year-old is third among rookies with 24 points and leads the freshman class with 14 power-play points.
