Last Meeting ( Jan 10, 2019 ) Winnipeg 2, Minnesota 3

The Winnipeg Jets have made a significant attempt to refuel their sputtering offense by acquiring former 25-goal scorer Kevin Hayes prior to the NHL trade deadline. The 6-foot-5 Hayes will have a chance to alter Winnipeg's recent fortunes on Tuesday when it hosts the Minnesota Wild, who have answered a disastrous 1-6-3 stretch by winning three straight games.

"It's a great feeling to feel wanted there. Clearly the Jets, it's been rumored for a bit that the Jets were going to be the place I was going to end up at," Hayes said on Monday after being traded from the New York Rangers for fellow forward Brendan Lemieux and two draft picks. "It's nice that they gave up a lot for me. I'm hoping I can come in and show them that it was worth it." The 26-year-old Hayes has 42 points (14 goals, 28 assists) in 51 games this season and could provide a jolt to the Jets, who have mustered just 25 goals while losing seven of their last 10 contests. Minnesota has defeated Winnipeg in all three meetings thus far this season after losing to its Central Division rival in five games in the first round of last year's playoffs. Jason Zucker, who scored twice in a 3-2 victory on Jan. 10, snapped a 10-game goal drought by scoring in the second period of Sunday's 2-1 overtime win over St. Louis.

ABOUT THE WILD (30-27-6): Ryan Donato, who was acquired from Boston in the Charlie Coyle deal on Wednesday, followed up a multi-point performance the following day with an assist in Friday's 3-2 win at Detroit before scoring from the top of the left circle 2:29 into overtime on Sunday. "It's a possession thing, man-on-man defense and capitalizing on your chances," the 22-year-old Donato said. "I was just lucky to get a good shot off and it went in." Kevin Fiala, who was a first-round pick in 2014 by current Minnesota general manager Paul Fenton when he served as an assistant GM in Nashville, hopes to have a similar immediate impact as Donato after being traded for Mikael Granlund.

ABOUT THE JETS (37-21-4): Patrik Laine elected to take a positive spin out of Sunday's 4-1 loss to Arizona, as his power-play goal in the first period marked the third straight game that the club has scored with the man advantage. "It's obviously good we're going to need that in the future, hopefully in the playoffs. It's good to get it going," the 20-year-old Finn said. "But it's not good if we can't score any five-on-five goals. But it was good to get that one." Captain Blake Wheeler, who has 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 33 career matchups versus Minnesota, set up Laine's goal to become the first player in franchise history to record consecutive 60-assist seasons.

OVERTIME

1. Minnesota C Eric Staal agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $6.5 million, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

2. The Jets acquired C Matt Hendricks from the Wild for a 2020 seventh-round pick on Monday as well as Ds Nathan Beaulieu (Buffalo) and Bogdan Kiselevich (Florida) and Fs Alexander Broadhurst (Columbus) and Par Lindholm in separate deals.

3. Minnesota LW Zach Parise boosted his point total versus Winnipeg to 39 (18 goals, 21 assists) in 45 career meetings after scoring a goal and setting up three others this season.
