Edmonton @ Columbus preview
Nationwide Arena
Last Meeting ( Mar 27, 2018 ) Columbus 7, Edmonton 3
No team was more aggressive leading up to the trade deadline than the Columbus Blue Jackets, who added three key components that they hope will boost their position in the cluttered Eastern Conference. Locked in a multi-team battle for both third place in the Metropolitan Division and the two wild cards, Columbus will host the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday afternoon.
Columbus picked up its first win with new additions Matt Duchene, Ryan Dzingel and defenseman Adam McQuaid in the lineup, squeezing out a 4-3 overtime victory over Philadelphia on Thursday night. "It's a little bit of different pressure on our team right now," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said. "We're kind of supposed to win right now. A lot of guys haven't been in this situation." The Oilers are in a much more precarious situation, still within striking distance of the second wild card but stuck in 13th place in the West. Captain Connor McDavid and Edmonton have earned points in four of the past five 3-1-1 entering the fourth stop of a five-game road trip.

ABOUT THE OILERS (27-30-7): Forward Sam Gagner, who played for Columbus in 2016-17 and was acquired from Vancouver on Feb. 16, has looked more at home on the team with which he started his career, scoring for the third time in five games in Thursday's 4-2 win at Ottawa. Undrafted rookie Josh Currie, appearing in his sixth NHL game, had his first multiple-point contest by setting up a pair of goals in Ottawa. "It's awesome to see a guy that has put in his work in multiple leagues and was maybe considered a little bit of a long shot to make the NHL come up and make an impact," forward Ty Rattie said.
ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (36-24-3): Defenseman Seth Jones is halfway to last season's career-best total of 16 goals, but he came through with the decisive tally against the Flyers and eclipsed the franchise record with his seventh career overtime game-winner. "I'm the guy that's out there, fortunately," Jones said of his success in the extra session. "It seems like all my goals are kind of like that; it's (teammates) ... giving me a wide-open net. I have one job, and that's putting it in the open net." Artemi Panarin, who set up Jones' goal on Thursday, has five tallies and 11 points in his last nine games.
