Dustin Brown will etch his name into the Los Angeles' Kings franchise record book when he suits up for his 1,112th career game on Thursday versus the host Vancouver Canucks. The 34-year-old Brown, who will pass Dave Taylor for the honor, was selected with the 13th overall pick of the 2003 NHL Draft by the latter during his time as the team's general manager.
"I mean, he's the face of this team," captain Anze Kopitar told the Daily Breeze of Brown. "It's what he is. I mean, was a captain, still is a leader on this team and he led us to two Stanley Cups." Brown scored his 21st goal to pull even with Kopitar for the team lead and had two assists in Tuesday's 8-4 setback in Edmonton to boost his point total to 13 (seven goals, six assists) in March. Like the Kings, the Canucks weren't too happy with their latest performance as they saw their faint playoff hopes get even dimmer with their third consecutive loss. "We had like a 30-minute lull again. And we can't be doing that. Our team's got to play a full 60 minutes," forward Bo Horvat said after Tuesday's 5-4 setback to Anaheim.
TV: 10 p.m. ET, FS West (Los Angeles), Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver)
ABOUT THE KINGS (28-40-8): Brown, who has 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) in his career against the Canucks, capped a two-point performance by scoring 53 seconds into overtime in a 2-1 win at Vancouver on Nov. 27. Kopitar set up three goals in the season series against the Canucks and had three assists versus the Oilers to lift his club-best point total to 56. Defenseman Drew Doughty, who leads the team in assists (36), scored a goal in the 4-2 loss to Vancouver on Nov. 24 and also found the back of the net on Tuesday.
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (32-35-10): Rookie Elias Pettersson, who leads the team in goals (27), assists (37) and points (64), scored and set up a goal for the second time in three meetings with Los Angeles in its 4-2 win on Feb. 14. Unfortunately for the 20-year-old Swede, he has tallied just once since that contest and followed an eight-point stretch over eight games by being held off the scoresheet in back-to-back tilts. Jacob Markstrom looks to atone after surrendering five goals on Tuesday when he faces the Kings, against whom he has turned aside 78 of 85 shots to post a 2-0-1 mark in the season series.
OVERTIME
1. Vancouver RW Brock Boeser has been held off the scoresheet in consecutive contests on the heels of his nine-game point streak.
2. Los Angeles C Alex Iafallo has one goal and three assists in his last four contests after being held without a point in each of his previous nine games.
3. Vancouver D Alex Edler has seven points (two goals, five assists) in his last five games.
