The Las Vegas Aces are in unfamiliar territory with their first three-game losing streak since 2019, but they’ll look to rebound tonight as they visit the Phoenix Mercury.

The Aces slipped to a 100-86 defeat against the Minnesota Lynx last time out despite 28 points from A’Ja Wilson, while the Mercury have won back-to-back games since Brittney Griner’s return to the lineup after a toe injury.

Las Vegas is a 6.5-point favorite in the latest WNBA odds with the chance to steady the ship here, and I weigh up the visitors’ chances in my WNBA picks and Aces vs Mercury predictions for Thursday, June 13.

My analysis
Things are looking up for the Phoenix Mercury. With Griner back in action as a force at both ends of the court, all the pieces are slotting into place for the Mercury.

Given the Las Vegas Aces’ mini-slump, it’s a little surprising to see this line, and Phoenix has every right to be aggrieved at being sizable home underdogs in this spot.

But I’ll gladly jump on this price, with the Mercury’s starting five oozing quality and Las Vegas sweating on Chelsea Gray’s availability.

Kahleah Copper gives the hosts a legit in-form bucket-getter and she’s coming off a 29-point masterpiece in the double overtime win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday.

It’s hardly a crisis in Las Vegas, but a 5-5 start is a major surprise. Wilson is doing her part but Griner’s size in the paint will at least make her work for her points tonight. That will put more pressure on the visitors’ secondary scorers to make plays too.

The trends point to the Mercury too. The Aces are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games on one day’s rest and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 outings against their Western Conference rivals.

I’m sticking with the Mercury for my SGP. Griner was a huge factor against the Wings with 24 points and nine rebounds, and I see her scoring freely again tonight.

Griner completely alters Phoenix’s ceiling this year and the Aces can’t afford to send double teams with Diana Taurasi, Natasha Cloud, and Rebecca Allen on the perimeter. That’s a championship-caliber core.

I’m also picking Cloud for a big playmaking game. She’s already had double-digit assists five times this year and now she gets to take on a reeling Las Vegas defense that’s allowed 96 points and 100 points in the past two outings.

Cloud will get a big minutes load again here against this talented Aces backcourt and that should mean a steady diet of dimes.
