Aces vs Sparks Predictions, Picks, & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

A'ja Wilson has been on a tear and so have the Las Vegas Aces as a whole. The Los Angeles Sparks are not up for the task of containing the WNBA MVP frontrunner, as our WNBA betting picks explain.

The Las Vegas Aces will look for their seventh straight win as they head to Crypto.com Arena to take on the struggling Los Angeles Sparks.

With the Aces in the middle of their biggest winning streak of the year, the WNBA odds list them as a 12-point road favorite thanks in part to the MVP production from their star player.

Find out where my best bets lie in our Aces vs. Sparks predictions and WNBA picks on Friday, July 5.

Aces vs Sparks predictions

My best bet
A’ja Wilson Over 35.5 points + rebounds (-122 at FanDuel)

My analysis

It was certainly not the start to the season Las Vegas Aces fans were hoping for from the back-to-back WNBA champs. Las Vegas lost as many games (six) over the first 12 games of the season as they did all of last year.

But clearly Beck Hammon’s team has snapped back into its championship ways as of late with six straight wins and a 7-1 record since June 13. However, even when the Aces were struggling, the blame couldn’t be put on their best player.

A’ja Wilson has been playing at an MVP level since the beginning of the season and is the runaway WNBA MVP odds favorite for the league’s top individual honor for the third time since 2020.

The 6-foot-4 Wilson has been an absolute game-wrecker down low, averaging the most points per game (26.5) and second-most rebounds per game (10.9) in the WNBA this season.

Wilson has scored 28+ in 11 of 18 games this season and has reached double-digit rebounds nine times. She’s already combined for Over 35.5 points and rebounds in 13 games and is poised to do it again against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Last time Wilson played L.A., she put up 31 points and pulled down eight boards while having to deal with the combo of Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink in the frontcourt. But Brink, the No. 2 pick in the WNBA draft, has since torn her ACL and L.A. has been struggling even more without her.

The Sparks rank third-last in the WNBA in defensive rating (108.1) while allowing the fourth-most points per game (85.3). They’ve been particularly bad inside the arc, where Wilson does her most damage, allowing the second-most 2-pointers per game (22.9).

Overall, L.A. allows the second-highest field goal percentage in the league (45.7%), and doesn’t have a defender capable of handling Wilson around the rim. And even with Hamby averaging double-digit boards (10.3), the Sparks are one of the worst rebounding teams as they rank third-last in the WNBA in rebounds per game (32.7).

Wilson doesn’t put up video-game numbers every night, but a team like L.A. won’t be the one to stop her.

Aces vs Sparks same-game parlay (SGP)

A’ja Wilson Over 35.5 points + rebounds

Dearica Hamby Under 17.5 points

Rickea Jackson Over 11.5 points

Without Brink, more has fallen on Hamby’s shoulders and she’s been inconsistent at best. The former Aces’ All-Star has only topped 17.5 points in two of her last eight games and now takes on a Vegas team that allows the third-lowest 2-point percentage in the league (46.6%).

Expect Hamby’s age to show against the surging Aces, but rookie Rickea Jackson could inject some youth and scoring into the game for L.A. Jackson has taken on a larger role since the injury to Brink and has put up Over 11.5 points in back-to-back games, and in five of her last nine.
