Aces vs Storm Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Seattle is down its top scorer, which will lead to putting more effort into defense to keep things close. Don't expect a pretty game.

Two teams destined for a first-round playoff matchup will fight for home-court advantage when the Seattle Storm hosts the Las Vegas Aces tonight.

There will be a real postseason feel, and my Aces vs. Storm predictions for September 17 explain why the Under is your best option in this affair. Read all about it in the WNBA picks below.

Aces vs Storm predictions

My best bet
Under 163 (-110 at FanDuel)

My analysis
The Seattle Storm will be down Jewell Loyd and center Ezi Magbegor tonight, which is why the line moved so much in the direction of the Las Vegas Aces. Perhaps too far, as I still expect Seattle to take this game seriously and put up a real fight in front of its home fans.

With the spread looking so unappetizing, the total is a much better target.

The Aces have allowed an average of just 73 points over their last eight games, and with Seattle missing its best scorer and another key starter, it’s going to be tough for it to disrupt the trend.

The Storm have had mixed results on defense so far this year, though they did hold Las Vegas to just 65 points in the first matchup between these teams back in June.

Seattle ranks fourth in the league in defensive rating (96.2 ppg). That number is often offset somewhat by the Storm’s fast pace of play — second in the league in most pace metrics — but it’s likely Seattle will rein in its offense with Loyd out of the lineup, resulting in fewer possessions.

Las Vegas has hit the Under in seven of its last eight games, and both sides should be taking this game seriously and giving full effort on the defensive end.

Aces vs Storm same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 163

Storm +8

A'ja Wilson Under 27.5 points

Going along with the Under, I’ll take the Storm getting a generous eight points. Lower-scoring games tend towards closer finals, and the Aces have only won by as much as nine points once in the first three games between these teams this year — and that game took place in Las Vegas.

I’ll also take A’ja Wilson to hit the Under on her scoring prop. The WNBA has never seen a scorer quite like Wilson, but I can’t expect her to get Over 27.5 points in a tough matchup on the road late in the year. Wilson has only hit that total once in her last four games and also came up short of that total in two of her three games against Seattle this season.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
