Aces vs Wings Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

A minute restriction has Chelsea Gray's numbers in the dumps, but increased playing time will do her — and her teammates — plenty of good.

The Las Vegas Aces got off to a shockingly mediocre start to the season, with many people blaming the absence of point guard Chelsea Gray as the cause. Well, she's been back for 17 games, and Vegas is still struggling to piece together a big winning streak.

Gray's numbers are also down significantly across the board due to initial minute restrictions, but my Aces vs. Wings predictions and WNBA picks for this August 27 affair explain why she'll put together at least six assists.

Aces vs Wings predictions

My best bet
Chelsea Gray 6+ assists (+150 at FanDuel)

My analysis

Tuesday’s lone WNBA matchup has a tall total, with the Over/Under spiking to 181 points. Match that up with the sizable spread, and that means a ton of buckets from the Las Vegas Aces.

The Dallas Wings rank among the worst defensive teams in the league, even with All-Star Satou Sabally back in the lineup. Dallas sits last in defensive rating and gives up 23.3 assists on 33.3 made field goals per game — most in the Dub.

It all sets up well for Aces point guard Chelsea Gray, who is returning to major minutes after working her way back from a foot injury that held her out at the start of the year. Gray has logged more than 28 minutes a contest in the first five games back after averaging only 24 before the break.

She’s dishing out less than five assists per game on the season, but with that recent increase in action her assist rate is climbing. Gray dished out seven dimes in the nail-biting win over Chicago, and some player projections call for more than six assists against the Wings tonight.

Her assist total varies from book to book tonight, with some operators dealing Over 4.5 at -160 and others at Over 5.5 +125. However, I'm taking advantage of FanDuel's milestone market, which has Gray 6+ assists priced at +150. Hooray for price shopping!

Considering the game line and player forecast, increase in playing time, as well as the make-up of this deplorable Dallas defense, I’m confident Gray will drop six or more dimes.

Aces vs Wings same-game parlay (SGP)

Chelsea Gray 6+ assists

Kelsey Plum Over 17.5 points

Las Vegas Aces -8.5

Gray is getting back to her regular work, and projections sit above six assists tonight.

Plum's projections call for closer to 20 points, and the tall total says there will be a surplus of scoring.

The Aces need a wake-up call, and running over the Wings could be just what the champs require to get right.

Aces vs Wings opening odds

  • Spread: Las Vegas -8.5 (-110) | Dallas +8.5 (-110)
  • Moneyline: Las Vegas -400 | Dallas +320
  • Over/Under: Over 176.5 (-110) | Under 176.5 (-110)

Aces vs Wings spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Aces opened as 8.5-point road favorites, and some books have ticked up to -9 with early play on Las Vegas. The Aces have failed to cover the spread in eight straight games, going back to July 12.
  • This total opened as low as 176.5 points and has spiked to as high as 181 O/U with action on the Over. Dallas’ defense is among the worst in the league, and Vegas’ recent issues stem from bad defense as well.
