Caitlin Clark and Indiana won their first meeting of the season, but my Fever vs. Lynx predictions and WNBA picks expect the Minnesota defense to have the upper hand on Saturday, August 24.

My analysis
The Indiana Fever visits Minneapolis tonight for a chance to defeat the Minnesota Lynx for the second time this season. Caitlin Clark may be the star most people are paying to see, but my best bet focuses on Lynx guard Kayla McBride.
McBride had a horrible shooting night in her last meeting against Indiana. The Notre Dame grad is draining 41% from downtown this season but was a miserable 2-for-10 from beyond the arc on July 14.
McBride had plenty of open looks, and she’ll likely get the same wide-open looks tonight. The Fever allows a 10th-best 35.4% shooting from beyond the arc on the second-most attempts per night (24.6). That’s ballooned to 28.5 attempts on 36.8% shooting since the break.
I also expect the Fever to double-team Napheesa Collier throughout the game, and for Collier to find McBride out of that double-team.
McBride has drained 3+ triples in nine of her 13 home games and went 3-for-5 from long-range on Friday against the Aces. Indiana doesn’t guard the perimeter very well, which should open the door for McBride to let it fly tonight.

My analysis
Caitlin Clark was a great scorer as a collegiate, but what her Fever teammates love most about the Iowa grad is her passing ability.
Clark leads the W in assists (8.5) with far more dimes for layups (121) than her closest competitor (81). Aliyah Boston is the main recipient as the South Carolina product has finished 73 of Clark’s league-leading 232 assists and her effective field goal percentage spikes 12.3% with Clark on the floor.
Boston isn’t the only Fever player boasting a higher eFG with Clark on the floor; Kelsey Mitchell (53.8%), Lexie Hull (58%), and NaLyssa Smith (51%) all benefit from Clark’s unselfish play as she usually puts them in positions to succeed.
Minnesota allows the seventh-most points per night in the paint, and Clark’s ability to set up Boston and the rest of her teammates at the cup is why she’s cleared 9+ assists in 12 of her last 13 games.

Minnesota has won five straight and seven of their last 10. They should score the basketball against the defensively-light Fever, and they should own the windows. The teams split the battle of the glass (34-34) in their previous meeting without Collier, but that shouldn’t be the case tonight.
The Lynx is 4-0-1 ATS across their last five and Collier and the Lynx defense will avenge their July loss and cover the number tonight.
