Liberty vs Sky Predictions, Picks, & Odds for Today’s WNBA Game

The New York Liberty travel to the Windy City for the final time this season and are favored to win their third consecutive game against the Chicago Sky.

The Liberty have convincingly won their previous two meetings with the Sky, and my Liberty vs. Sky predictions expect the trend to continue this afternoon.

My analysis

The New York Liberty and Chicago Sky square off Saturday in a rematch of their Thursday bout where the Liberty used their vast experience to stave off a pesky Sky offense for a fourth-quarter blowout.

The Thursday night clash followed what has been the soundtrack of the first three games of their season series; Chicago competes hard for three quarters before New York’s Olympians — Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones, and Sabrina Ionescu — take over the fourth.

The Liberty won’t want to lose this game. New York is 1.5 games ahead of the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA standings, and they meet the Sun on Tuesday night in their last tilt before the break. The past two games with Connecticut have been close, and they don’t want to go into the Olympic break looking up at the Sun.

Preventing Sky guard Chennedy Carter from going off early is the key today, and I believe N.Y. will. Carter scored 14 of her 22 points Thursday night on 6-for-14 shooting. The Liberty made her life difficult by throwing bodies at her in the first half, and by trapping and double-teaming the Sky leading scorer across the final 20 minutes.  

Keeping Carter from early scoring outbursts is the first step, and that’s where Stewart and Jones take over. They were extremely physical Thursday against Sky rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso; the Sky may have won the battle of the boards (36-30), but the Liberty combined for 37 points while holding the inexperienced rookie duo to 18 points on 9 of 22 shooting, and ultimately winning by a big number. 

Expect the Liberty to come up big on both ends of the floor and cover the number today.

I expect to see New York sending one last message in likely the final time they meet Chicago this season.

It will be difficult for the Sky to clear their team total when they haven’t done so in their last three, and that’s mostly because Angel Reese has failed to clear her season scoring average in four of her past six.

Reese has recorded 15 consecutive double-doubles, but she barely did so Thursday night because Stewart and Jones know how to shut her down offensively. Reese hasn’t scored 14+ in any of their previous three games.
