Mercury vs Storm Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

With playoff seeding on the line, the Phoenix Mercury will look to slow down the Seattle Storm and in particular Jewel Loyd. Unfortunately for them, our WNBA expert belives Loyd will be able to score at will which is why she's the focus of tonight's matchup.

The WNBA has one lone game on tonight’s slate, and it should be a good one between two playoff-bound franchises when the Phoenix Mercury meets the Seattle Storm for the third time this season.

My Mercury vs. Storm predictions and WNBA picks expect Seattle guard Jewell Loyd to play a major scoring role when the Mercury meets the Storm on Saturday, September 7.

Mercury vs Storm predictions

My best bet
Jewell Loyd Over 19.5 points (-115 at DraftKings)

My analysis

The WNBA season is winding down, and we have a good Saturday night matchup between two playoff teams hoping to get something going in these final days.

Playoff seeding matters in the WNBA and the fifth-seed Seattle Storm has a handful of games remaining on their schedule to catch fourth-seed Las Vegas Aces in the standings.

That means tonight's matchup with the Phoenix Mercury is important which also means Storm leading scorer Jewell Loyd must have a big scoring night.

Loyd is one of the best scorers in the WNBA, but she’s been riding the struggle bus. Loyd has failed to clear 20+ in four of her nine tilts since the break, but she’s in a good spot tonight against a leaky Mercury backcourt stop unit.

Opposing guards are draining 49% from the field and 34% from downtown since the break, which amounts to a whopping 56 points per night which bodes well for Loyd to have a slump-busting scoring night.

Tonight’s clash is one the Storm needs to win, and Loyd is their best scorer. Loyd is coming off a rough road stretch, but she has cleared 20+ points in three of her previous five home games, and because the Mercury defense has hemorrhaged points to guards since the break, I expect a bounce-back performance for Loyd tonight.

Mercury vs Storm same-game parlay (SGP)

Loyd 20+ points

Under 164

Loyd getting 20+ doesn’t mean a high-scoring affair, and I don’t expect one tonight.

What I am expecting is a slow-paced, low-scoring game tonight. Both groups are in the bottom half of the pace standings, and Phoenix averages only 78 points per night on the road. The Storm defense has been stout but their inconsistent offense has led to an Over/Under record of 14-19-1 to the Under.
