Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese and Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark meet for the first time as pros when the Sky and Fever tangle in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup matchup.

Clark and the Fever haven’t gotten off to the best start, and my Sky vs Fever predictions and WNBA picks expect this trend to continue when the Sky meets the Fever on Saturday, June 1.

Sky vs Fever predictions

My best bet
Chicago Sky -3.0 (-110 at FanDuel)

My analysis

The Indiana Fever drafted former Iowa sensation Caitlin Clark as their No. 1 pick but things haven’t gone so well for Clark and the Lady Fever.

The Fever have played more games than any other WNBA team and are off to a 1-9 start to their season. Indiana has the worst defense in the W and those problems have only been magnified with the injury to veteran center Temi Fagbenle.

Indiana was already 11th on the league table in caroms but losing Fagbenle costs the Fever six caroms and one block they won’t be able to find sitting on their bench. That’s going to be problematic on Saturday against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky

The Sky are playing .500 ball but will likely dominate Indiana on the glass and should get a boost; No. 3 pick Kamilla Cardoso has missed the entire season but is expected to suit up. She, along with Reese and Sky leading rebounder Elizabeth Williams will make it difficult for Indiana to hang with them on the boards–or in the paint.

Chicago can also shoot the basketball; they knock down the league's fifth-most triples on the second-fewest attempts. Sky leading scorer Marina Mabrey is draining a shade over three triples per night and the Fever allows the second-most made threes per night.

The Fever are already a bad rebounding team, and the Sky are going to own both ends of the glass. Indiana boasts one of the worst defenses in the W and Chicago not only scores the basketball but defends; they allow the fourth-fewest points and is above average defending the three-point arc. The Fever will keep it close but, in the end, won’t have the depth nor the experience to beat an improving Sky squad.

Caitlin Clark odds, prop for tonight

My best bet
Overs 20.5 points (+100 at FanDuel)

My analysis

Clark has her critics, but the NCAA all-time leading scorer is starting to heat the scoring part of the box score.

She’s coming off a 20-point outing against Seattle where she shot 6-17 from the field and 3-8 from downtown. It was a tough night as it was the first the Fever had played without guard Erica Wheeler and Fagbenle.

Seattle boasts an experienced backcourt and gave Clark the rookie treatment; the Storm caused all sorts of problems for the Fever guard and when her stroke didn’t fall, she dropped nine dimes.

Clark usually shines in fast-paced game environments and Saturday’s tilt should be a fast-paced affair. She boasts a high usage rate (27.5) and jacks up 13.5 field-goal attempts with a minimum of eight attempts from beyond the arc–she’ll have the usage; the Fever is shorthanded, and I expect Clark to let it fly Saturday.

Sky vs Fever same-game parlay (SGP)

Sky -3

Clark Over 20.5 points

Over 166.5

The Sky is playing quite well, gets a boost with Cardoso suiting up, and has covered the spread in four of their last five.

The Fever has failed to cover in three of their last five, but we should expect Clark to come out firing, and connecting after Thursday’s difficult shooting night.

Clark and Indiana play fast-paced-hoops but so does Chicago. Indiana doesn’t play much defense at all and is missing a couple of key defensive players.  Four of the last five Fever games have ended Over the number and this one will as well.
