Sky vs Storm Predictions, Picks, & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

The balanced scoring and stout defense of the Seattle Storm will prove too much for Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky to withstand, per our Friday night WNBA betting picks.

The 2024 WNBA season continues Friday night with a matchup between the Chicago Sky and Seattle Storm.

The Sky started their road trip with a much-needed win over the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday. The Storm have won four consecutive games since their nine-game homestand began.

My Sky vs. Storm predictions run down the spread and total for this interconference battle as I give my best WNBA picks for July 5.

Sky vs Storm predictions

My best bet
Storm -9.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

My analysis

These two teams met previously this season back on May 28 in Chicago in a game that resulted in a 77-68 Seattle Storm win. In that game, the Chicago Sky turned the ball over 21 times and shot only 40.9% from the field. The Sky had Elizabeth Williams in that game but did not have Kamilla Cardoso. This game will see a reversal on their availability.

The Storm are an excellent defensive team and force more turnovers than any other squad in the WNBA. The good news for the Sky is that they force the second-most turnovers in the league and forced 18 vs. the Storm in their previous matchup. However, they still lost at home by nine points.

In the past four games — all at home — the Storm have absolutely smashed their opponents winning by an average margin of 17 points per game. Since losing their home opener to the Minnesota Lynx back on May 14, Seattle has won eight consecutive home games by an average of 17 points per contest.

The Top 4 players for the Storm — Jewell Loyd, Nneka Ogwumike, Skylar Diggins-Smith, and Ezi Magbegor — have been fantastic all season long. Loyd is averaging 30 points per game in the last three games while Ogwumike and Diggins-Smith have lowered their scoring volume.

The Sky just do not have the horses to match up with this big four. Angel Reese and Chennedy Carter have been great recently, but they can’t do it all themselves. Both Marina Mabrey and Cardoso are going to need to increase their scoring volume to have any hope in this matchup. Unfortunately, I do not see that happening and the Storm will get another big home win.

Sky vs Storm same-game parlay (SGP)

Storm -9.5

Sky team total Under 75.5

Jewell Loyd Over 22.5 points

The Sky average only 79.4 points per game, which ranks ninth in the WNBA. They only scored 68 points in their last matchup with the Storm, and that was at home. The Sky have scored 75 points or less five times this season and the Storm have held their opponents to under 76 points in three of their past four games.

Finally, we will finish off the parlay with Loyd to continue her scoring run. She had a tough shooting day in their last matchup (6 of 18 from the floor), but she still finished with 19 points. She will get to the free-throw line plenty again and shoot better from the floor to hit her point total this time around.
