It’s an Eastern Conference showdown tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena as the Connecticut Sun host a Chicago Sky team clinging to the final playoff spot.

My Sky vs Sun predictions expect Alyssa Thomas to continue dishing dimes in our free WNBA picks for August 23.

Sky vs Sun predictions

My best bet
Alyssa Thomas Over 7.5 assists (-120 at bet365)

My analysis

Alyssa Thomas' props are always in play with the Connecticut Sun’s do-it-all forward filling the box score again this season. She’s a nightly triple-double threat, and there’s every reason to expect Thomas to be Connecticut’s engine again this evening.

It’s her assists prop that especially jumps out to me here. Thomas has been in playmaking mode over the past week, including 14 dimes against the Wings last Friday.

She tallied eight assists against the Sparks on Tuesday, even with the Sun scoring just 69 points that night, and she may be initiating even more of the offense if DeWanna Bonner comes off the bench again tonight.

For the second straight year, Thomas is leading Connecticut in dimes, and her 7.8 assists per game trails only Caitlin Clark this season.

Surrounded by reliable scorers, Thomas is well-placed to attack a Chicago Sky defense that has looked sluggish since the season resumed last week. Though Connecticut ranks in the bottom half of the WNBA in points per game, Thomas is at the heart of many possessions, so the Over on 7.5 is solid value.

Sky vs Sun same-game parlay (SGP)

Alyssa Thomas Over 7.5 assists

DiJonai Carrington Over 11.5 points

Under 155.5

DiJonai Carrington has been another key performer lately for Connecticut. I’m adding the Over on her points prop, with Carrington coming off a game-high 19 points against the Sparks.

Though her 3-point percentage (29%) has dipped in 2024, she’s averaging 12.8 ppg and has shown she can elevate a Sun offense that can go through cold stretches.

I’m also picking this to be a clunky contest that hits the Under. Connecticut boasts the league’s stingiest defense, holding opponents to fewer than 74 ppg, and the hosts are coming off a rock fight against L.A. that served up just 130 total points.

The Under has been a winning ticket in each of the Sun’s past nine games when playing on two days’ rest, and its 5-2-1 in the Sky’s past eight contests.

  • The Sun have dominated this matchup in recent years, winning seven of the last eight meetings, and they’ve only lost three times at home in 2024.
  • The Sky have lost four of their last six outings, and they’re 1-5 ATS in their past six games against teams with a winning record.
  • The Under is 4-1 in Connecticut’s last five games after a win.
  • Though the Over has cashed in the past three meetings, Chicago's offense has been held to fewer than 70 points in two of its three games since the Olympic break.
