Sparks vs Fever Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Fever guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell have been playing incredible basketball since WNBA action returned from the Olympic break. Their offensive expertise will once again be on display against the suspect Sparks defense.

The Indiana Fever have clinched a playoff berth on the strength of the highest-scoring backcourt in the WNBA this season.

Fever guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell combined for 64 points in their 100-93 victory over Dallas, and tonight they host a Los Angeles Sparks group that hasn’t stopped anyone this season. That leaky defense plays into my Sparks vs. Fever predictions.

These WNBA picks like Clark and Mitchell to have big nights when the Sparks meet the Fever on Wednesday, September 4.

Sparks vs Fever predictions

My best bet
Kelsey Mitchell Over 21.5 points (-105 at bet365)

My analysis

Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell is tearing it up.

The seven-year vet and soon-to-be unrestricted free agent has been on fire since the Olympic Games break, and I don’t expect the Los Angeles Sparks to snuff out her flame tonight.

Mitchell thrives in fast-paced affairs, and fast-tempo games are always on the offering playing alongside Caitlin Clark. The Fever have picked up the pace since the Olympics, and it’s no small coincidence that the former Ohio State Buckeye has scored 20+ in all seven games since action restarted.

Mitchell and the Fever are in luck because the Sparks play at one of the fastest paces in the WNBA, which won’t upset Indiana and their high-scoring backcourt tonight.

The Sparks backcourt is young, and they don’t defend the perimeter well. Since the break, opposing guards are draining 47% from inside the arc and 35% from downtown. That should give Mitchell all the room she needs to work. The unrestricted free agent has made 52% of her field goal attempts and 47% from distance since the break, which is why her 26.7 points per game are second in the W since the beginning of August.

Tonight’s clash should be another high-scoring affair and Mitchell thrives in that environment. Her exceptional cutting ability allows her to be a scoring threat from anywhere, and guards have torched the L.A. perimeter of late, which bodes well for another big night for the Fever guard.

Caitlin Clark pick: Thriving in an uptempo match

My best bet
Caitlin Clark Over 21.5 points (-105 at DraftKings)

My analysis

Clark loves playing in fast-paced affairs, and she’ll have another opportunity tonight as the Sparks play at a tempo that leads to big scoring nights.

Clark is on a sustained heater, scoring at least 22+ in five of Indiana’s seven games. The two nights she didn’t clear 22 were against two of the slowest-paced teams (Connecticut Sun and Atlanta Dream) and she still managed 19 against both.

Since the break, the former Iowa Hawkeye has seen nothing but fast-paced teams foolish enough to try and out-pace the Fever, and the rookie guard has made them pay. She's shooting 48% from the floor and 38% from downtown in her last seven and is coming off a 28-point night at Dallas.

The Sparks perimeter has been torched all season, and they have turned the ball over way too much. The red-hot Clark should clear 22+ tonight.

Sparks vs Fever same-game parlay (SGP)

Kelsey Mitchell 22+ points

Caitlin Clark 22+ points

Over 174.5

The Sparks aren’t a good defensive team, but neither are the Fever.

Indiana has scored 100+ in each of their last two, and that’s because they’ve picked up their own pace to match the foolish teams who try to outrun and outgun Clark and Mitchell.

The Fever have also had to score 100+ because they’ve allowed 84 points per night, and their defense is barely better than the Sparks.

That should boost a decent Los Angeles offense. The Sparks have averaged nearly 80 points a night since the break, and the fast pace alongside Indiana’s leaky defense should allow the ladies to combine for more than 174 points.
